What began as a simple case of mistaken identity quickly spiraled into a frustrating game of cat and mouse. This is the story of Tim’s pursuit of justice and the lengths he went to reclaim his peace of mind.
Frustrating Phone Calls
It all started about a year and a half ago when Tim began receiving unwelcome calls on his trusty cell phone. The voice on the other end, a pre-recorded message, claimed to be in regard to his gas card credit card. Frustrated and confused, Tim decided to return the call and set things straight.
“Who are you looking for?” Tim asked, expecting a simple resolution.
“We are looking for YMC regarding your gas card behind payments,” came the response.
“This is not YMC,” Tim exclaimed, a touch of anger in his voice. “This is a personal cell phone!”
The Beginning of an Infuriating Cycle
With that, the mysterious caller promptly hung up. Tim hoped that would be the end of it, but little did he know that this was just the beginning of an infuriating cycle.
The very next day, a call from a 404 number disrupted Tim’s afternoon at around 1 pm. This time, it was a live person on the other end, raising the stakes of the bewildering situation.
“We’re calling in regards to your gas card being past due,” the caller stated.
“Who are you looking for?” Tim questioned, his patience waning.
“YMC,” came the response.
“Stop Calling My Phone!”
Tim’s frustration reached its peak as he clarified once again, “This is not YMC! It is a personal cell phone. I am not, nor have I ever been, affiliated with that company. Please stop calling my phone!”
Yet again, the caller abruptly ended the conversation, leaving Tim to hope they had finally received his message. However, the universe seemed determined to test his endurance!
Later that evening, at precisely 8 pm, Tim’s phone rang again. It was the same 800 number, playing the familiar pre-recorded message, urging him to call them back. Refusing to be defeated, Tim dialed the number and expressed his frustration.
“This is not the company you are looking for,” he shouted down the phone.
Days turned into weeks, and the relentless calls persisted like clockwork. Every day, between 8:00 pm and 8:10 pm, Tim’s phone would ring, only to be greeted by the same recorded message. Enough was enough.
Enough Was Enough
Driven to the edge, Tim dialed the number once more, but this time his words carried a threat. “If you call this damn number back one more time, I will sue you and your company for harassment!!!”
The response from the other end was unexpected. “Ok, go ahead,” the person coolly replied.
Determined not to back down, Tim blocked their numbers, hoping to find respite from the constant calls. Yet, even with the numbers blocked, the clock striking 8:10 pm would inevitably trigger a voicemail notification on his phone, each message containing the same recording as before.
Finally, having reached his breaking point, Tim decided to seek legal assistance. He found an attorney willing to take on his case, and together they embarked on a quest for justice. The attorney wasted no time and swiftly filed a motion with the courts, seeking to put an end to the unending calls that had plagued Tim’s life for far too long. That same day the calls stopped, and Tim’s lawyer found out they’d been from a company (SCC), which a Big Credit Card Company (BCCC) had subcontracted.
Identifying the Source
Months passed as the legal wheels turned, and Tim’s determination remained unwavering. Then, a glimmer of hope shone through the darkness. Tim received a call from his attorney, who delivered promising news. The BCCC, fearing the impending class action lawsuit against the SCC, was trying to dissociate themselves from the case. As a result, they were willing to offer a settlement of up to $50,000 just to remove their name from the impending legal battle!
Tim’s heart raced with a mix of justice and satisfaction. The tables had turned, and the very company that had dared him to sue now faced the consequences of their relentless actions! The attorney reassured Tim that justice was within reach, encouraging him to seize the opportunity and proceed with the lawsuit. With a firm voice, Tim declared, “They told me to “go ahead and sue,” and I think that’s just what I’ll do!”
He Had the Upper Hand
As we wait for the outcome of the trial, we can safely say that Tim’s journey taught him a valuable lesson about the power of perseverance and standing up for what is right. His story serves as a reminder to all of us that we should never underestimate the impact of our actions and our ability to bring about change, even when faced with an unclimbable mountain!
Have you ever experienced a similar situation of persistent harassment? How did you handle it?
