The escalating conflict between Israel and Hamas has prompted former President Donald Trump and other Republican contenders to focus on foreign policy and criticize the Biden administration. Here’s the full story.
The Attack

As Hamas launched a surprise attack during a major Jewish holiday, Republicans questioned the Biden administration’s actions, particularly a $6 billion transfer to Iran, and suggested that it had weakened the United States’ global position.
Trump’s Criticism

Former President Trump, speaking in Waterloo, Iowa, condemned Hamas’s attacks on Israeli territory, labeling them acts of savagery that must be crushed.
American Taxpayer Dollars

He directly attributed the violence to the $6 billion transfer, saying that “American taxpayer dollars helped fund these attacks.”
The U.S. Was Perceived as Weak

Trump also argued that, under President Biden, the U.S. was perceived as weak and ineffective on the global stage, opening the door to hostility.
Biden Betrayed Israel?

“They didn’t have that level of aggression with me. This would have never happened with me either,” Trump said.
He added that Biden had “betrayed Israel” with the deal with Iran.
Biden Pledged His Support

President Biden, in response to the attack, pledged to ensure Israel had the support it needed to defend itself.
The Deal

Much of the criticism from Republicans centered on a complex deal announced by the Biden administration in September involving the release of five U.S. citizens detained in Iran.
The Money

As part of the deal, approximately $6 billion in frozen Iranian assets held in South Korea were transferred to an account in Doha, Qatar.
Although Hamas is a Sunni Muslim group, it has maintained close ties with the Shiite powerhouse Iran, sharing enmity toward Israel.
The Funds Were Not Used

Administration officials clarified that no money from the Doha account had been spent at the time of the attacks.
The $6 billion in question did not consist of U.S. taxpayer funds and it represented payments made by South Korea to Iran for oil purchases over recent years.
These funds had been held in South Korea due to U.S. sanctions.
Held in a Restricted Account

They were now held in a restricted account in Doha, intended exclusively for humanitarian purposes, such as providing food and medicine to Iranians through vetted non-Iranian vendors.
Funds Would Be Spent as Needed

Iran’s President, Ebrahim Raisi, had stated that the funds would be spent as needed, but the U.S. had committed to rigorous oversight.
DeSantis Criticized Biden

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis accused Biden of being lenient on Iran, enabling them to strengthen their resources.
We Paid for It

Senator Tim Scott suggested that the attack was the result of the $6 billion payment, saying, “We didn’t just invite this aggression; we paid for it.”
While Pence also criticized Biden for projecting weakness on the world stage and appeasing Iran, he directed his attention to his fellow GOP contenders who advocated isolationist policies, particularly on Ukraine.
Join Together

Pence said, “I call on Donald Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Ron DeSantis to abandon the language of appeasement — to say that we will stand strong with Israel, we will stand strong with Ukraine, and we will stand as the leader of the free world.”
Could Open Borders Be a Problem?

Several social media users shared their thoughts on the incident.
One Twitter user wrote, “Imagine how many terrorists walk upon us just waiting for the command of Joe’s open borders puts us all in danger.”
Dumbest Clowns In America

Another user added, “They can do that because they do not understand the situation in the Middle East. In fact, I guarantee you no one in the GOP house could even point to Israel on a map.
These are the dumbest clowns America has to offer from the backwaters of our most ignorant states.”
The Truth Matters

A third user commented, “The People need to know that these funds belong to Iran, funds that were sanctioned and frozen!
The monies sent to Iran were in no way American Funds like these Corrupt extremist members of the GOP, like to imply to The American People! Truth Matters!”
