During the podcast episode aired on September 24th, Maher engaged in a lively conversation with Democratic consultant James Carville.
The Background
The two discussed the type of people typically attending Trump’s events, particularly in light of an incident involving Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert.
Washington Insider
Carville said, “The date they had the Lauren Boebert incident in Denver, Politico ran a story that she had become a Washington insider.”
This prompted Maher to say, “When they send a redneck to Washington, they do not **** around.”
Trump Rally Attendees
Maher’s comment drew laughter from his podcast guest and set the tone for discussing Trump rally attendees.
Carville remarked on the humorous interviews conducted with people at Trump rallies, noting that some comments can be pretty amusing.
It’s Amusing
Carville added, “Don’t you love when they go and interview these people at a Trump rally? It’s amusing. Of course, they have somebody yelling, ‘Trump grab my p****!’ and you look at her, and they ain’t nobody wanna get within a mile of your p****.”
The Worst
The conversation then shifted to Maher’s thoughts about those attending Trump’s rallies.
He didn’t hold back, describing them as “the worst.”
They Are Deplorable
Maher even humorously questioned Carville, “You said before, some of them are deplorable. Yes. Some of them are. If you’re actually getting your a** out to go to a Trump rally, I mean, what, you don’t have the grades to get into the tractor pull?”
The Election
Then the two talked about the upcoming presidential election, agreeing that Biden has a low chance of winning against Trump.
Trump Would Be a Betting Favorite
“Right now, let’s assume the election was November 3rd of this year, and they said two candidates are Joe Biden, the Democrat, Donald Trump, the Republican, Joe Manchin and Larry Hogan, No Labels, and Cornel West, Trump would be a betting favorite,” Carville said.
Biden Will Lose
“Totally. I think we’re on the same page with Biden. Did a great service, but whereas in 2020, maybe he was the only one who could have beaten Trump, I think now he’s the only one who will lose to him,” Maher replied.
This Is Not the First Time
This isn’t the first time Bill Maher has commented on Donald Trump and the state of American politics.
In February, Maher confessed his fear of Trump.
Afraid of Trump
He said, “I am afraid of Trump on a very personal level because I don’t think he likes me. I understand why. And I don’t know what he would do in a second term.”
Trump Will Arrest Biden
Regarding Trump’s impeachment, Maher commented, “You can’t go after him because he’s always guilty. It’s almost Greek tragedy-like because you set off this cycle of revenge like The House of Atreus. And I guarantee you when Joe Biden is out of office, Day Two, they will try to arrest him.”
