Biden Ditches 9/11 Memorial – Was This a Slap in the Face to America’s Grief?

Every year on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, the president of the United States visits one of the attack sites. Biden broke that tradition this year. Here’s how people reacted.

Biden Breaks Tradition

On the 22nd anniversary of the September 11 attacks on America, President Biden became the first president in 22 years to not visit one of the affected locations.

Instead, Biden was in Anchorage, Alaska, speaking at a ceremony at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.

Vice President and First Lady Take His Place

According to a statement from the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris attended a ceremony at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in New York City, and the First Lady Jill Biden visited the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial.

Biden Has Been Traveling

After attending the G20 summit in India, Biden flew to Vietnam for a press conference. Biden headed to Alaska from Vietnam to “speak to several thousand of [America’s] troops.”

Busy Itinerary

Because of his busy itinerary, Biden said he was “Not gonna be able to get back to the site where it occurred.” This statement received backlash on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“Despicable Human”

One user questioned Biden, saying, “The site? Singular?” She also called Biden a “Despicable human” for not acknowledging the attacks at four locations on September 11, 2001.

“Very Important” to the President

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden had plans to “Honor the lives lost and the families of loved ones who still feel the pain of the terrible day.” She said it was “very important” to the president.

Heartbreak and Pain

Jean-Pierre ended her statement by saying, “We can only imagine the heartbreak and pain that the 9/11 families have felt every day for the past 22 years.”

She Lost Her Husband on 9/11

One woman who lost her husband on 9/11 at the World Trade Center criticized Biden’s choice to not “commemorate the loss with the families.”

She said it was “terrible” that Biden was doing the “opposite of what we’ve all pledged to never forget.”

No Way of Forgetting

Another man who lost his father on 9/11 said Biden’s actions portrayed the message “Americans have forgotten and that it’s okay to forget.”

He also said the people who lost loved ones on September 11th have “No way of forgetting.”

Snub to the American People

Several military veterans spoke out about Biden’s untimely trip to Alaska, saying it was just another “Snub to the American people.”

Lack of Reverence and Compassion

Marine Corps veteran Mark Geist said he expected to see “Reverence and compassion” from America’s politicians but saw a “Lack of” instead.

Missed Opportunity

Another Marine Corps veteran, Victor Marx, said Biden was “Missing an opportunity to demonstrate his dedication to upholding the values and principles that define our nation.”

He Should Be Ashamed

One X user commented that Biden “Doesn’t have a sympathetic bone in his body” and “Should be ashamed” for not attending the 9/11 ceremonies at the attack sites.

Time to Move On

Another comment suggested, “It’s time to move on.” This person said, “A whole generation has grown up without memory of [9/11].

Did LBJ visit Pearl Harbor 22 years after it happened?” That’s when she said, “We must never forget, but it’s time to move on.”
