Orbán’s remarks came during a conversation with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
What Would You Do?
“So if you were in charge of NATO, if you were, say, Joe Biden, what would your next move be in the war in Ukraine? What would you do?” Tucker Carlson asked Orbán.
“Call Back Trump”
Orbán’s response was, “Peace. Immediately, call back Trump.”
He Praised Trump
He explained that Trump’s foreign policy would be a key factor in resolving the situation.
Despite acknowledging that Trump has been the subject of criticism, Orbán praised the former president’s diplomatic approach.
Trump Has the “Best Foreign Policy”
Orbán said, “That’s the only way out. Call back Trump because, you know, you can criticize him for many reasons. I understand all the discussion. But, you know, the best foreign policy of the recent several decades belongs to him.”
The PM Shared His Thoughts
The Hungarian Prime Minister emphasized that during Trump’s tenure, there was a notable absence of new war initiations and a significant focus on diplomatic engagement with leaders on the global stage, including those of North Korea, Russia, and China.
He Defended Trump
He countered criticisms suggesting that Trump lacked the necessary education to grasp global affairs, underscoring that Trump’s policies were rooted in factual understanding and resulted in positive outcomes.

Orbán said, “He’s criticized that he’s not, you know, he’s not educated enough to understand the world. But this is not the case. Facts count.”
Orbán went on to say that under Trump’s leadership, the Russian invasion of Ukraine “would not have been possible.”

He asserted, “Trump is the man who can save the Western world.”
Orbán’s Politics
Viktor Orbán’s close ties to Moscow are well-documented, with his government maintaining a strong alliance with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime.
Despite Hungary’s membership in the European Union, Orbán’s stance on the Ukraine conflict has been contentious.
His reluctance to support EU sanctions against Russia and refusal to facilitate the transfer of Western weapons across Hungary’s border with Ukraine has drawn criticism.
Trump Shared His Gratitude
Former President Donald Trump reacted to Orbán’s comments by sharing a clip of the interview on his Truth Social platform and wrote, “Thank you, Viktor Orbán!”

In addition to discussing the Ukraine crisis, Orbán also took the opportunity to critique the multiple federal indictments that Trump has faced.

He said, “To use the justice system against the political opponents … That was done by the Communists.”
“It’s a very Communist methodology to do that,” he concluded.
