The two prominent figures within the Republican Party engaged in an ongoing public exchange of words, with Christie taking a more confrontational stance.
Christie, who has been making strides in the New Hampshire primaries, didn’t shy away from the opportunity to respond to Trump’s latest jabs.
The Interview
He pointed out that Trump tends to react strongly when someone calls out what he perceives as nonsense in his actions and statements.
Nonsense Trump Is Involved In
“He doesn’t like when people stand up to him and call him out on the nonsense that he’s involved in,” Christie said during the interview with CNN host Wolf Blitzer.
Keep It Coming, Donald!
“And I guess he had a bad night last night, maybe at some bad Chinese food or something Wolf. Well, at 11:30 at night, a little indigestion decided to attack me. Keep it coming, Donald!” he added.
Trump Has No Guts
He also criticized Trump’s avoidance of debates, highlighting the former president’s absence from the stage.
“And by the way, if he had any guts, he’d get on the debate stage!” Christie said.
Failed Social Media Site
“And he’s got things to say about me. Stop hiding behind your social media site, your failed social media site, Donald, and start taking me on directly. Show up. Stop being a coward,” he added.
This Isn’t the First Time
Christie’s criticism of Trump goes beyond their recent exchanges.
He has been one of the few candidates within the Republican Party willing to challenge Trump as the 2024 election approaches.
Convicted Felon for President
He took a firm stance during the primary debates, saying, “I’m the only one on that stage who was unwilling to raise my hand, aside from Asa Hutchinson, and say I wouldn’t support a convicted felon for president of the United States.”
Take on Donald Trump Directly
“We are going to take on Donald Trump directly,” Christie said.
“He doesn’t like it when he’s taken on directly, and he’s confronted,” he added.
Trump Shared His Reasons
However, Trump himself offered reasons for his absence.
During an interview with Tucker Carlson, Trump explained that he skipped the first round of debates to avoid being “harassed.”
“Doesn’t Make Sense to Do Them”
“Do I sit there for an hour or two hours—whatever it’s going to be—and get harassed by people that shouldn’t even be running for president?” Trump said.
He added, “I’m going to have all these people screaming, shouting questions at me, all of which I love answering, I love doing, but it doesn’t make sense to do them.”
