For over a decade, Christian cake baker Jack Phillips has been at the center of a legal battle after refusing to bake a cake for an LGBTQ+ wedding. Recently, the Colorado Supreme Court has agreed to hear his second case, giving hope to Phillips. Here’s the whole story.
A Major Development

Phillips, the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado, recently received news that the Colorado Supreme Court has agreed to hear his second case.
The Reason

Phillips’ legal problem started in 2012 when he declined to create a custom cake for a same-sex wedding. This decision led to a contentious lawsuit.
No One Can Be Forced

In 2018, after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Colorado had demonstrated hostility towards Phillips’ religious beliefs and that no one may be forced to produce custom artwork.
Another Lawsuit

However, he faced another lawsuit, this time from a transgender lawyer, Autumn Scardina.
Philips Declined

Scardina requested a cake celebrating a gender transition, which Phillips declined because it would require him to create a message that conflicted with his beliefs.
Then Scardina requested a cake showing Satan smoking a marijuana joint, which Phillips declined again.
Clearly a Set-up

Jake Warner, the attorney defending Phillips, said that the second lawsuit was “clearly a set-up” to ” target” Phillips and his beliefs.
During the trial phase, it was revealed that “Scardina promised Phillips that, were this suit dismissed, Scardina would call Phillips the next day to request another cake and start another lawsuit.”
His Hope

In an interview with Fox News Digital, Phillips expressed his hope that this latest development is the “light at the end of the tunnel.”
“The state court turned us down in our first case, but I think they realize now that I serve everybody,” he added.
The Anniversary

He recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of his business. He shared that throughout these years, he has served a diverse clientele, including members of the LGBTQ+ community who understood his stance.
Faith in Jesus Christ

Phillips said, “But this whole legal battle has helped strengthen my faith in Jesus Christ and strengthen our family, brought us all closer together. It’s brought together a lot of people who have helped support us in so many ways.”
Numerous Threatening Emails

Despite enduring “numerous threatening emails” and even death threats over the years, Phillips says that this prolonged legal battle has ultimately strengthened his faith.
He Had Support

Phillips said that a gay man even testified on his behalf, recognizing that while Phillips is willing to serve everyone, he cannot be expected to create every type of cake request that comes his way.
The Legal Battle

Phillips and his legal representation, the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), will argue that recent legal precedents, including the ruling in 303 Creative vs. Elenis, bolster his case.
This ruling affirmed that the government cannot compel an artist to convey a message with which they fundamentally disagree.
Twitter Users Shared Their Views

Several social media users expressed their thoughts on the incident.
One Twitter user wrote, “Good grief, leave the guy alone. You can’t force him to do something against his beliefs. It’s called the First Amendment.”
Self-Righteous Hateful Baker

Another user added, “A real Christian would turn the other cheek. This headline should read, “Self-righteous hateful baker faces new lawsuit.”
Forcing an Agenda

A third user commented, “I stand with Jack. This is not about a cake. This is about bullying and forcing an agenda. Find another bakery and leave him alone.”
