The event, which took place on Wednesday, August 23, showcased DeSantis’ fiery rhetoric and his determination to present himself as a strong contender for the party’s leadership.
DeSantis’ Vision
As the debate commenced, DeSantis seized the opportunity to lay out his vision for the country’s future, attributing the current state of affairs to a conscious choice rather than an inevitability.
America Is in Decline
“Our country is in decline. This decline is not inevitable. It’s a choice,” DeSantis declared, drawing applause from the audience.
He Attacked the Policies
In his opening statement, the Florida governor wasted no time in attacking President Biden’s policies and advocating for a change in direction.
Send Biden Back to His Basement
“We need to send Joe Biden back to his basement and reverse American decline. We must reverse Bidenomics so that middle-class families have a chance to succeed again,” DeSantis said, framing his candidacy as a response to the perceived shortcomings of the current administration.
He Attacked Hunter
Continuing his line of criticism, DeSantis directed his attention to Hunter Biden.
“We cannot succeed as a country if you are working hard and you can’t afford groceries, a car, or a new home while Hunter Biden can make hundreds of thousands of dollars on lousy paintings,” DeSantis added.
This Is Not the First Time
DeSantis’ willingness to target the Bidens is not new, as he has previously referenced issues such as drugs found in the White House.
The Addiction
Taking a direct shot at Hunter Biden’s past struggles with addiction, DeSantis humorously contrasted his own family situation.
Desantis’ Children Won’t Do That
“You know, the good thing about us is, you know, my kids are six, five, and three. So, they aren’t going to be bringing any cocaine into the White House when I’m president,” he said.

The mention of drugs in the White House refers to a previous incident, where the Secret Service discovered white powder.
However, the agency was unable to determine the source due to lack of evidence.
The Investigation
The Secret Service statement stated, “Without physical evidence, the investigation will not be able to single out a person of interest from the hundreds of individuals who passed through the vestibule where the cocaine was discovered.”
He’s Not Doing a Better Job
