While he was still answering questions, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre abruptly ended the press conference.
Press Conference Suddenly Ends
The president was answering a question from a reporter when Jean-Pierre could be heard speaking over him, saying, “Thank you everybody.”
She took the microphone and announced, “This ends the press conference,” before directing everyone to leave the room.
Awkward and Confusing
The press conference ended right after that, and Biden also said “thank you” after standing there awkwardly.
The unexpected move from Jean-Pierre seemed to leave Biden and reporters confused.
Five Questions
During the press conference, the president took five questions from reporters.
After the fifth question, Biden concluded by telling everyone he was “going to bed.” He didn’t leave the stage, so another reporter asked him a question.
Strategic Interests Above Human Rights
The question was whether the president was “putting the United States’ strategic interests above those of human rights.”
Biden replied, “I don’t put anything above human rights.”
Asked About Hunter
As Biden walked away from the podium, he ignored another question about whether he was “worried” about his son, Hunter Biden, being indicted.
“Lying Dog-Faced Pony Soldier”
Shortly before the press secretary ended the press conference, Biden explained why he uses the phrase “lying dog-faced pony soldier” to explain how he feels about politicians who refuse to accept that climate change exists.
He Wasn’t Making Any Sense
Critics said Biden’s response was “lengthy” and that he seemed to be “rambling.” One critic said the press conference ended because Biden “wasn’t making any sense.”
Concerns About Biden’s Age
A recent poll showed Americans are concerned that Biden’s age may negatively affect his physical and mental competence and his ability to serve another term as president.

During the press conference in Hanoi, Vietnam, Biden said, “These five-day trips around the world are no problem.”
Jean-Pierre said, “No president has been able to do” the job that Biden has done.

Biden had some support from people who said it was “not unreasonable” for the president to be tired after a “busy couple of days.”

Another person accused the media of focusing on the “least relevant aspect of the conference” rather than “actual issues being discussed and worked on.”

Critics jumped in with their opinions on X, too. Some claimed the press conference was “an embarrassment” and Biden’s “age was catching up to him.”
No Reason Given
Jean-Pierre did not give a reason for ending the press conference, but some say there may have been “time constraints or scheduling conflicts.”
