A Reddit user told how her family wants her to take care of her aunt and let her stay with her while she is recovering from illness. The only problem is she has a poor relationship with this mean-spirited aunt who never treated her well when she was a child.
She Was Just Mean
During her childhood, Tia’s aunt made it clear that she did not like children and actively avoided events that involved them.
Dislikes Children
She told Tia and her brother that children are dirty and annoying and that they only stop being a nuisance when they learn to act like adults.
Feel Bad
While this sentiment may have some truth to it, it was hurtful for her and her brother to hear as elementary schoolers.
Bad Mouthing Her Mother
What was worse for Tia was how her aunt talked about their mother, who has been single since their father left them for his affair partner.
Tia overheard her aunt, commenting that her mother was promiscuous and selfish for having children.
Paternity Doubts
She even insinuated that their father may not be their real dad, which is why he left.
When Tia was 10, she finally told her mother about these comments.
Strained Relationship
As a result, her mother refused to be in the same room as the aunt, and they haven’t had much of a relationship with her since then.
Estranged
Tia had little contact with her aunt for 7 years after she moved away from the neighborhood where her mother and her grandparents lived.
When Tia turned 18, her aunt attempted to reconnect, but she kept the contact minimal.
Karma
Recently, her aunt was hit by a car and has been experiencing health problems, requiring frequent hospital visits and physical therapy.
However, her house is far from most health facilities and she lives alone, with no one to take her back and forth.
In Need of Help
As she doesn’t have the money to purchase a new house in a more convenient location and doesn’t want to sell her current house due to her dogs and future plans, she is in need of help.

Tia’s family members, including her mother who are still angry at the aunt, cannot help with transportation or housing.

Her aunt has approached her for help, but Tia is hesitant to take her in.

Many users agreed with Tia’s stance in not letting her aunt come and stay with her. They kept referencing the quotes she had used to describe children and thought this was the best way to treat her after all of that.

The comment went on to say that these adults need to realize that one day they will all need someone younger to help them out.
