“Tragic and Devastating for Her Young Family” – Family Initiates Wrongful Death Lawsuit Against Hospital After Tragic Death From Septic Abortion

The family of Alyona Dixon, a 24-year-old woman who tragically passed away due to septic abortion complications, has initiated a wrongful death lawsuit against Dignity Health – St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Las Vegas.

Alyona Dixon’s unfortunate demise occurred on September 28, 2022, less than a week after she sought medical assistance from a Planned Parenthood clinic for a medically induced abortion, as reported by KLAS-TV. 

It Started With a Visit to Planned Parenthood

After visiting Planned Parenthood, she subsequently visited St. Rose Dominican’s Blue Diamond campus in Las Vegas, complaining of severe lower abdominal pain that had commenced the day before.

She Underwent Many Tests

According to the lawsuit, Dixon was discharged on September 26 after undergoing a series of tests. 

Instructions to Follow-Up

The medical records indicate that she was provided with instructions to follow up with a gynecologist and advised to visit the emergency room if her symptoms worsened.

She Went Back to the Emergency Room

The following night, on September 27, at approximately 11 p.m., she presented herself at the emergency room, reporting vaginal bleeding. 

The Horrifying Symptoms

The attending physician’s assessment painted a dire picture, including symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, severe dehydration, acute renal failure, leukocytosis, sepsis, lactic acidosis, hypokalemia, sinus tachycardia, metabolic acidosis, pulseless electrical activity, and respiratory failure.

She Was Quickly Transferred

After initially improving following treatment, Dixon was slated for transfer to a Clark County hospital. 

Her Condition Was Deteriorating

Her condition abruptly deteriorated while still in the emergency room.

Her heart rate surged to 150 beats per minute, and she encountered difficulties in breathing.

Medical personnel attempted intubation and sedation, but during the procedure, she vomited, and her heart ceased functioning. 

Last Attempts to Save Her Life

Despite resuscitation efforts, she was pronounced dead at 5:32 a.m. on September 28. The Clark County Office determined the cause of death to be “complications from septic abortion.”

The Family Sues the Hospital

The family’s lawsuit against Dignity Health contends that the hospital’s medical staff failed to recognize the severity of Dixon’s condition during her September 26 visit and neglected to provide appropriate care.

Seeking Compensation

The lawsuit seeks compensation for various expenses, including medical bills, funeral costs, burial expenses, special damages, compensatory damages, and punitive damages, which collectively exceed $15,000.
