Along with the constant ringing in her ears, her life is riddled with challenges, but she remains unbowed.
A Typical Busy Day
On a typically busy day, she set out to her local grocery store pharmacy to refill her prescriptions.
Lining Up at the Pharmacy
With the pharmacy usually bustling, OP found her spot in the waiting chairs arranged parallel to the customer line.
Sit, Wait, Move Along
The drill was simple: sit, wait, move along with the line.
Enter; the Dreaded Karen
All was going according to plan, until the moment a new character, Karen, a woman in her mid-thirties, strolled towards the line’s front.
Yes, She Was Waiting
Caught off guard, OP found Karen questioning her if she was waiting for a prescription.
OP’s affirmative reply was met with Karen’s barely audible whisper about a “quick question”.
Take Your Quick Question to the Back of the Line
Believing in the order of the queue, OP pointed Karen to the line’s end, and to the consultation window for queries.
She Was Above the Agreed Upon Rules
OP’s polite attempts to guide Karen were in vain.
Karen remained unmoved, her sense of urgency blinding her to the courtesy of queuing.
Karen’s Bold Rush
The final customer in front of OP completed their transaction, and as OP prepared to approach the counter, Karen swiftly stepped ahead, bombarding the pharmacy clerk with a flurry of orders.
Show Some Respect!
The disregard for OP’s turn did not sit well with our protagonist.
Interrupting Karen’s impatient tirade, OP voiced her indignation, demanding Karen respect the queue like everyone else.
Sitting Out of Line?
Karen retaliated by pointing out OP’s seated position, assuming it implied that OP was not really in line.
Karen’s outburst, “You were sitting!”, echoed through the pharmacy.
She Couldn’t Physically Stand In Line
Patiently, OP explained her physical predicament, her painful arthritis, and her struggle with standing still or for extended periods.
Like Moths to Karen’s Flame
With this, the whole pharmacy – the pharmacist, the pharmacy techs, and the queue, were drawn into the drama.
Being in a Rush Doesn’t Mean Rules Can Be Broken
Not swayed by Karen’s angry words, OP reminded Karen that everyone in line could potentially be in a hurry, her sitting did not justify being skipped.
What About Sitting in a Wheelchair!
When Karen scornfully questioned her right to sit in line, OP sternly defended her need and right to sit, given her painful arthritis and her upcoming wheelchair approval.
Temper Tantrum
At this, Karen’s frustration boiled over.
She started hopping around, shaking her fists, and yelling about her urgency to pick up her order. The sight was ludicrous, akin to a two-year-old’s tantrum, with items flying out of her purse in her frenzy.
Come to Register Two
Seeing the situation spiral out of control, the pharmacist intervened, offering to help OP at another register.
She Stood Her Ground
However, our protagonist refused to yield her well-deserved place to Karen and stood her ground.
The pharmacist had no choice but to assist Karen away from the main counter.
Limping Away in Victory
Finally, as OP collected her prescriptions and limped away from the heated scene, the onlookers erupted in applause, lauding her defiance and strength.
What a Showdown
Her typical day at the pharmacy had become an unforgettable showdown with an impatient Karen.
