Former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Newt Gingrich, recently shared his perspective on Joe Biden’s decision to run for president at 80, sparking concerns about his health. Here’s the whole story.
The Concerns
In a recent column for Fox News, Gingrich argued that it’s not Biden’s age that is the primary concern but rather his competence.
Biden Is Not Too Old
Gingrich wrote, “He’s not too old – he’s too Joe Biden. His age isn’t the problem. His competence is.”
The Wrong Way
He referenced the movie “Book Club: The Next Chapter” and wrote, “It struck me as Callista and I were watching the movie Book Club: The Next Chapter that we have been talking about Biden’s cognitive problems in exactly the wrong way.
In the film, a cast of actors and actresses in their 70s – and an 85-year-old star – successfully carry off a light romantic comedy.”
Age Is Not a Problem
Gingrich pointed to notable figures such as Rupert Murdoch, who continues to lead the Fox Empire at 92, Warren Buffett, actively investing billions at 93, and Helen Mirren, performing brilliantly at 78.
“So, Biden’s problem is much more about him and his abilities,” he wrote.
Biden Always Had a Loose Relationship With Reality
“As a candidate, U.S. senator, vice president, and president, Biden has always had a loose relationship with reality – and a stunning willingness to just make things up.”
The President Has Lied Several Times
“His recent story about his house almost burning down is a lie he has told on at least eight occasions over the years. It simply is not true, and that simply does not matter to Biden,” he continued.
Biden’s Cognitive Decline Is Clear
“Importantly, his cognitive decline is clear and painful.
To have the leader of the most powerful nation in the world wander around a stage because he does not know where he is supposed to go – or what he is supposed to do – is just plain frightening,” he added.
His Mind Is Slipping
“His slipping mind compounds with his lifetime of yarn-spinning, and it makes both seem worse,” Gingrich concluded.
Biden Replied
Concerns about Biden’s age have been raised by many, but the president himself has repeatedly expressed confidence in his abilities.
With Age Comes Wisdom
In a recent address to members of the Sheet Metal Workers union, Biden said, “I tell you what, someone said, ‘You know what? That Biden, he’s getting old, man. I’ll tell you what. Well, guess what? Guess what? You know, the only thing that comes with age is a little bit of wisdom. I’ve been doing this longer than anybody, and guess what? I’m going to continue to do it with your help.”
Biden Was Seen Struggling
In another recent incident during the G20 summit, President Biden was seen struggling to pronounce Saudi Arabian King Mohammed bin Salman’s name and being confused, further raising concerns about his cognitive decline.

Another user added, “Biden is declining rapidly, and at the same time, he is this international criminal mastermind, directing money laundering and bribes. Wow, Biden must be a superman.”
