Amina, a Muslim girl who is quite devout and who wears a headscarf, is OP’s friend.
OP mentions that Amina hasn’t always been so religious.
Bikinis Were Okay in the Past
Previously, she wore two-piece bathing suits like the rest of them whenever they had pool parties. She was rather liberal and didn’t dress too traditionally.
A Mini-Retreat to the Lake
The story began when OP called Amina to join them on their recent mini-church retreat to a lake.
Anti-Islamic Friend
Lisa, one of the girls in OP’s friend group, doesn’t particularly like Islam and displays subtle aggression toward Amina.
She Swam in Clothes
Things took a turn when all the girls wore bikinis, but Amina couldn’t because of her religious convictions, so she swam in a loose-fitting outfit.
There Were No Men Around
Lisa was not happy with the situation. She repeatedly went on to say, “Come on, you still have to cover up even when there are no guys around?
She Used to Look Good in a Two Piece
You would certainly look good. Don’t you remember how attractive you used to appear in two pieces?”
She Gave Her a Hard Time
Amina was starting to feel uneasy, so OP told Lisa to stop interfering and reminded her that what Amina chose to wear was her business.
Told She’d Stick Out
Then they gathered as a group for a photo when they finished swimming, but Lisa whispered, saying Amina would “stick out” as she was the only one not wearing a bikini and to exclude her.
She Tried to Exclude Her
OP didn’t care what Lisa said and called out to Amina, who was sitting on the bench upset.
So Immature
Lisa argued, “What are you doing?!” And OP got angry and told her to stop being immature.

Finally, they took the photo together and were done.
Asked Why She Had Brought Her
After that, before they could start eating, the girls started to dry off, and Lisa grabbed OP and asked her why she had brought Amina in.
What She Chose to Wear Is Not Her Business
OP told her to stop talking and repeated that it was not her business what Amina chose to wear. OP went on to say that she must respect Amina’s decision even if she doesn’t like it.
It’s Her That Would Be Excluded
OP warned her that if she made Amina feel uneasy in the future, she would put it down immediately and wouldn’t bother inviting her to any further hangouts.
Was She Wrong to Stand Up For Her?
OP shared this incident on Reddit and asked whether she was wrong for standing up to her friend.
