This father was tired of watching his son being walked all over by his ex. But he isn’t sure if he went too far when he called her an irresponsible mother. Here’s the whole story.
A Close-Knit Family
A few years ago, the Original Poster’s (OP) son dated a woman who had three children. At the time they got along well as they’re a close-knit family.
OP accepted the kids as if they were his grandchildren and treated them well. But then, one day when she picked them up and took them out of state, and that was it.
OP or his son didn’t see or hear from them for a while.
She Asked for Help
After some time, the woman called his son and asked for help with the kids, as she had to travel out of the country for a medical procedure. His son went to help her, and they didn’t ask any questions.
A couple of months later, the woman called again, asking for help to move a camper trailer. OP went along with his son and visited the woman and her children, only to find out that they were living in a homeless camp in the parking lot of a closed-down warehouse with no power or water.
The father called his brother, who agreed to let them move into an empty house since their mother died.
They Found Them a Place to Live
He promised to give them a free rent move-in.
They lived there for about six months until the woman met someone on the internet, and they took off again.
A couple of weeks ago, the woman called again, asking for help again because she had to travel outside the country for another medical procedure. However, this time, the son refused to help, and OP started questioning him as to why she would need to leave the country again for a medical procedure.
But his son refused to answer.
The Truth Was Shocking
OP was extremely suspicious and confronted his son again. When he finally learned the truth, he was shocked.
She traveled to Mexico last year to receive a $6,000 Brazilian butt lift for which she had used her tax refund to pay, while her kids were in shelters.
She needs help this time because she wants to return to Mexico and get a tummy tuck with this year’s tax refund.
She complained to OP that his son no longer returned her calls.
OP was angry, and he told her that he agreed with his son and that she was a terrible person for not being a responsible mother and for wasting his and his son’s time.
A Bad Mother
OP asked Reddit whether he was wrong for calling her terrible, and Redditors sided with OP.
One Redditor said that she’s too focused on superficial things and leaving her kids to suffer is just outrageous.
Another Redditor pointed out that this is more about child neglect than medical procedures and whether OP thought of calling CPS to check on the welfare of the children.
As a reply, OP wrote, “It’s 100% about neglect. I actually brought this up to my son. I’m hesitant because he says their dad is abusive and they’re afraid of him. But I’m tempted anyway.” OP went on to mention that without evidence or documentation of the abuse, the government will send the children straight to their abusive father.
In the end, what matters most is the well-being of the children. Hopefully, they will be able to find a stable living situation and receive the care and attention they need.
