Glawdys Leger, a 43-year-old teacher at Bishop Justus Church of England School in Bromley, was fired for saying LGBTQ+ was a sin. Here’s the whole story.
LGBTQ+ Lessons Were Integrated
Leger’s disagreement started from what she deemed as “extreme and politically partisan” LGBTQ+ lessons integrated into the religious education curriculum for Year 7 and 8 students.
The Teaching Materials
The materials introduced students aged 11 to 13 to various sexual and gender identities like pansexual, asexual, and intersexual, as well as notions of friendship and allyship.
The Equality Act
Leger contended that gender identity was not a legally protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010.
Her Christian Viewpoint
In response, Leger took it upon herself to present the Christian viewpoint on LGBT topics, aiming to provide a balanced narrative.
She Shared Her Beliefs
During one lesson, she expressed her beliefs, including a stance against transgender ideology and the conviction that sex outside marriage is a sin.
She Never Hated Them
Leger also shared that while she holds certain convictions, she never demonstrated hatred or a lack of love towards LGBTQ+ individuals.
She Was Reported
Regrettably, Leger’s teachings reportedly had upset some students, prompting a parental complaint and, ultimately, her reporting to the Teaching Regulation Agency.
The Allegations
The complaint alleged that she conveyed statements such as “people will always be seen by God as having their birth gender” and that “transgender people are ‘just confused’,” and that being “LGBTQ+ is a sin.”
She Was Dismissed
Following an investigation and disciplinary hearing, Leger was fired for gross misconduct.
The Letter
The Teaching Regulation Agency, in a letter to Leger, said that her teaching conduct conflicted with “fundamental British values” by displaying intolerance towards differing beliefs.
Gender Dysphoria
Talking to the media, Leger said, “I have great compassion for LGBT people, especially for those suffering from gender dysphoria.”
Gender Confusion
“I cannot, however, in good conscience teach or say things I believe are contrary to my faith, for example, saying that same-sex sexual relationships are good and/or affirming people with gender dysphoria in their gender confusion,” she added.
“I am certain that I have not shown, and never would show, any hatred or lack of love towards LGBT people,” she concluded.

Recognize That There Are Queer Kids
Another user added, “I don’t care if the Church of England teaches that LGBTQ+ people are sinful; I care that it recognizes that there are queer kids there that didn’t have a choice in having to go to that school.”
Tolerate Gay Followers
A third user commented, “The Church of England in particular bothers me. They allow LGBT vicars, bishops, etc., yet some churches refuse marriage. The head of the Church is the crown, who signed the gay marriage law; therefore, all Church of England followers should allow and tolerate gay followers.”
