Republican presidential hopeful, Nikki Haley, finds it unlikely that Republicans will be able to pass a federal ban on abortions and they should stop demonizing women who decide to have an abortion. Here’s the full story.
Help Women Who Have an Abortion

At the Iowa State Fair, former South Carolina Governor, Nikki Haley, told fair-goers that it’s important to help women who choose to have an abortion, even though she is pro-life.
Iowa Bans Abortions

After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, some states continued allowing and offering abortions. Other states, such as Iowa, passed total bans on abortions becoming “pro-life” states.
It Will Be Challenging to Sign a Federal Ban on Abortions

Given the makeup of Congress, Haley said it would be challenging for any Republican administration to sign a federal ban on abortions. “In order to pass a federal law, you have to have a majority of the house, 60 Senate votes, and a signature of a president. We haven’t had 60 Senate votes in over 100 years,” said Haley.
A Way Through

Haley’s opinion is that we might have 45 Senate votes.
Because of that, “no Republican can ban abortion any more than a Democrat can ban state laws,” said Haley.
Homicide Laws Apply to Abortions

In the same state where Haley served as governor for 7 years, Republicans in South Carolina proposed that women who have an abortion should be subjected to the state’s homicide laws.
In South Carolina, a person convicted of murder faces a minimum of 30 years in prison with a possibility of getting the death penalty.
Nikki Haley Doesn’t Agree

Haley doesn’t agree with that approach. She said she had a roommate in college who had an abortion because she was raped and that people need to show compassion towards these women.
Stop Demonizing Abortions

“We have to stop demonizing that issue and humanize it,” said Haley. She said it’s about saving as many babies and supporting as many moms as possible.
U.S. Needs to Be Tougher on Adversaries

While on the campaign trail, Haley has touted that the United States needs to be tougher on adversaries such as China, Russia, and Iran. She called China a “national threat” for infiltrating the US.
Stance on China Front and Center

Haley’s stance on China was front and center on a commercial released by a federal that supports her presidential campaign.
China Is Buying American Soil

During her speech at the Iowa State Fair, Haley said Chinese businesses are buying Iowa’s land and hog farms. She told fair-goers, “We’re going to make sure we deal with China once and for all, and Iowa is the front line.”
Iowa Is Important

Haley said, “Iowa is an important state. Everybody likes to think that it’s because of the caucus, but when you look at what is happening with the threat behind China, think Iowa.”
China Is Stealing From America

Another concern Haley has about China is that Chinese companies steal millions of dollars worth of research at American colleges and then “spread Chinese propaganda.” According to Haley, China steals $600 billion worth of intellectual property from the US every year.
Negotiating Experience

Haley has experience negotiating with China and Russia. She previously worked as an Ambassador for the United Nations and said when speaking to Chinese leaders, “you go to them with strength.”
Take Back U.S. Soil

The first thing Haley says she will do is make sure the Chinese are no longer purchasing US soil and take back what they’ve already purchased.
She said universities will have to choose to either accept Chinese money or American money, but that “the days of taking both are over.”
Trump Arrives

Haley’s schedule at the Iowa State Fair was jam-packed. She met with a lot of people and enjoyed shaking hands and posing for pictures with fair-goers. Her time at the fair coincided with Trump’s arrival at the fair.
Underestimate Me. That’ll Be Fun.

The message printed across Haley’s shirt at the fair read, “Underestimate me. That’ll be fun.” She explained the message on the shirt had to do with how she has worked her way up. She was “Nikki who?” but she got to work making a name for herself.
