Actor Kevin Spacey, who was cleared of sexual assault cases, recently received a standing ovation after his brief performance at Oxford University. Here’s the whole story.
The Performance

The occasion was a cancel culture lecture hosted by his friend, columnist Douglas Murray, at Oxford University, where Spacey read and performed a scene from William Shakespeare’s “Timon of Athens.”
The performance drew a standing ovation, which made Kevin Spacey highly emotional.
Tribute to the Late Conservative Philosopher

This event aimed to pay tribute to the late conservative philosopher Sir Roger Scruton, who had his encounters with cancellation during his lifetime.
Parallels With Cancel Culture

The choice of “Timon of Athens” as the Shakespearian text addresses themes such as wealth, betrayal, and greed, drawing parallels with the contemporary concept of cancel culture.
First Public Performance

Spacey’s return to the stage marked his first public performance since being acquitted of sexual assault charges against four men in July 2023.
Found Not Guilty

Throughout the trial, Spacey consistently denied the allegations, and he was ultimately found not guilty by a jury.
The Legal Battles

Spacey’s legal battles and allegations against him led to his stepping back from mainstream projects, including missing the finale of the popular Netflix series “House of Cards.”
Back to the Industry

However, the actor has ventured into an upcoming film titled “Control,” where he plays a vocal role as The Voice of a self-driving car.
The film features Lauren Metcalfe as a government minister having an affair with Mark Hampton’s Prime Minister, with Spacey voicing the self-driving car.
The Concerns

Although Spacey does not appear on screen, his voiceover role raised concerns.
Even before the film’s release, “Control” generated controversy when West End cinema The Prince Charles withdrew its offer to host the premiere upon learning that Spacey was part of the cast.
The Director Defended Him

Despite the cinema chain’s decision to disassociate from the film’s premiere, director Gene Fallaize supports Spacey’s involvement.
Kevin Is a Nice Guy

Fallaize said, “He seemed fine. I mean, I didn’t know Kevin before all of this, so I can’t say what he was like in comparison to what he was like before. But you know, he just seemed like a nice guy.
He also highlighted the significance of the jury’s verdict, which found Spacey not guilty of the allegations.
I Don’t Regret Casting Kevin

“The only people that know everything are the ones that were in that courtroom, and they decided he was not guilty. These people that are saying – if they’re saying – that we’re whitewashing him or enabling him to come back, what facts have they got to contradict the jury? I don’t regret casting Kevin, and I would do it all over again,” he added.
Twitter Users Expressed Their Views

Several social media users shared their thoughts on the incident.
One Twitter user wrote, “One of pedowoods finest. Pedos cheering pedos…nothing new to see here.”
Opening the Door to Cancel Culture

Another user added, “He was acquitted? News to me, and if it is rightfully so, then final nail in the MeToo coffin. The worst was the opening of the door to cancel culture.
Roseanne and so many others canceled due to moronic mob behaviors of people hiding behind social media and “activists” causes.”
Not Allowed to Say Things

A third user commented, “I always liked his acting… people told me I wasn’t allowed to say that anymore.”
