Rep. Max Miller from Ohio is advocating to restrict funding for non-American flags exhibited in the halls of Congress after the controversy surrounding the display of the Palestinian flag outside Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s congressional office. Here’s the whole story.
She Displayed the Palestinian Flag

Rep. Tlaib, representing Michigan’s 13th congressional district, has displayed the Palestinian flag outside her office near the Capitol since at least January.
Her vocal support for Palestinian rights and criticism of Israeli policies is widely recognized.
The Controversy

The recent controversy surrounding the flag outside her office gained attention after a photo taken by the Washington Examiner’s Reese Gorman went viral on social media.
It Was Still Displayed

As of Tuesday morning, photos taken by Fox News Digital confirmed that the Palestinian flag was still prominently displayed outside Tlaib’s office, further fueling discussions.
New Amendment

Rep. Max Miller, a Republican from Ohio, shared Gorman’s tweet and used the opportunity to introduce a legislative amendment.
American Values

In his tweet, he explained the importance of ensuring that the halls of Congress represent American values and questioned the presence of the Palestinian flag.
Ban All Non-US Flags

Miller is sponsoring an amendment to a legislative appropriations bill that aims to prevent funds from being used to acquire or display any flag or pennant other than the flag of the United States, flags of states and territories, or the POW-MIA flag on Capitol grounds.
The War

The ongoing conflict in Israel has seen over 4,500 rockets fired by Hamas from the Gaza Strip toward Israel since Saturday.
The situation has resulted in a devastating loss of life, with approximately 1,600 casualties reported on both sides, including around 900 in Israel.
American Lives Were Lost

The Biden administration confirmed that 11 American citizens have lost their lives in the war.
The United States Shared Its Support

To support Israel, the United States has initiated munitions and military equipment deliveries.
The Threat

Hamas issued a warning on Monday, threatening to harm Israeli civilians held captive for each new Israeli airstrike on civilian homes without warning.
In response to the ongoing conflict, President Biden expressed the United States’ concerns and highlighted the likelihood of American citizens being among those held hostage by Hamas.
Criticism of Israel

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, known for her outspoken criticism of Israel and advocacy for Palestinian rights, faced backlash over her statement issued in the wake of the recent violence.
Apartheid Government

In her statement, she criticized the “unconditional funding” provided to support Israel, which she described as an “apartheid government.”
Tlaib expressed her sorrow for the lives lost on both the Israeli and Palestinian sides and called for various actions, including “lifting the blockade, ending the occupation, and dismantling the apartheid system.”
Heartbreaking Cycle of Violence

She added that “this heartbreaking cycle of violence will continue” as the U.S. “provides billions in unconditional funding to support the apartheid government.”
Twitter Users Shared Their Views

Several social media users expressed their thoughts on the incident.
One Twitter user wrote, “Treasonous she should be removed from Office immediately there should be no flag flying outside any member of our government office other than the U.S. flag.”
Only the American Flag Should Be Hoisted

Another user added, “That’s right, that’s what the UN is for. In our buildings schools and government institutions should only be the American flag.”
Congress Needs to Seek a Curb

A third user commented, “Congress needs to seek a curb on allowing those who support terror groups and countries from being allowed to serve in our U.S. government.”
A Better Approach

A fourth user wrote, “I was defending Tlaib and the flags she is displaying, even though I don’t really like her, but not allowing non-US flags in Congress seems like a much better approach.”
