A young woman took to Reddit for advice on getting revenge on her housemate, who had been stealing from her and her fiancé. This is her story.
A Shared Living Arrangement
The Original Poster (OP), a 21-year-old woman, and her fiancé, a 22-year-old man, have been living at his dad’s house.
The plan was to stay there until their apartment was ready for them to move into, but they’ve been living there for about six months now.
A New Housemate
But their peaceful coexistence was disturbed when the father rented out another room to a lady after two months of their stay.
This woman has been causing them problems from day one, but things have gotten progressively worse.
Touching Their Things
The woman who moved in seemed to have a penchant for touching and using their stuff without permission.
It started with their produce, milk, and snacks, which both the OP and her fiancé found annoying.
They Thought They Were Going Crazy
At first, they thought they were losing their minds but one day they decided to put a hidden camera in the kitchen to see what was going on.
Caught Red-Handed
It didn’t take long before they caught the woman red-handed – by the end of the day they installed the camera they had footage of her taking salmon, using up their pasta, and eating their ice cream straight from the carton!
OP and her fiancé talked to the woman about taking things that didn’t belong to her, but she flat-out denied it, even with video evidence!
No Remorse
After this confrontation, the woman still continued to help herself to their groceries.
She was taking their stuff without remorse, even though she knew everyone had bought their own groceries.
Strange Behavior
Her father-in-law only provided necessities like water, toilet paper, paper towels, and laundry detergent in exchange for rent.
After that incident, the woman began copying their groceries exactly, always buying what they bought.
Beyond Belief
The woman started getting crafty with her stealing.
She would steal their Hello Fresh meal recipes, along with the coupons that came with them.
Not Just Food
OP and her fiancé would then see her cooking the same meals the next week. They were beyond angry at this point.
They even caught her using OP’s Summer’s Eve and PH balance wash in the shared bathroom, which she emptied in less than a week!
She Even Took Her Underwear!
It didn’t stop there.
OP started noticing that some of her underwear was missing.
This made her feel violated and uncomfortable in her own home. But what could she do?
They moved all of their things into their room, including their undergarments, but still it continued.
There’s More?
OP and her fiancé thought they had reached the peak of their frustration when they noticed that the woman had stolen their $9 olive oil and Japanese soup base (luckily expired).
But they were wrong.
There Is No Stopping Her
They recently went grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s, and the woman stole some of their groceries after they got back.
She used the expired Japanese soup base for her dinner, not knowing it was expired.
Still, it was frustrating, and they didn’t know what to do.
Laughing It Off
They had talked to the father-in-law about it, but he just laughed it off as if it wasn’t a big deal.
OP and her fiancé were trying to save money to buy furniture and move in comfortably, but replacing stolen items was making it difficult.
A Living Hell
It was clear that the woman had no intention of stopping her thievery, and it was making the couple’s life a living hell.
Good Advice
OP posted on Reddit asking for help and got plenty of people offering advice on revenge.
One user said, “Don’t put anything into the food. If anything happens to her as a result, whether you intended it or not, whether it ends up a bad thing or not, food tampering is a criminal act, and you could be charged.”
Feeling helpless and frustrated, they decided to use this advice and take matters into their own hands.
Feeling Hot, Hot, Hot!
They bought a Whirlpool mini fridge for their room to keep their food safe, and they also bought ghost pepper seasoning, hoping to teach the woman a lesson!
They planned to season all their condiments with the ghost pepper and make her pay for her crimes!
Ruining Their Life
As she sat in her car, driving back home from the store with her fiancé, OP couldn’t help but feel sad.
She didn’t want to start sabotaging things, but she also didn’t know what else to do.
This woman was ruining their home life, and this seemed like the only thing that may make her change her ways.
Whether or not it will, though, remains to be seen!
