A man reached out to the Reddit community to find out if he was an “a–hole” for “snooping in on [his] girlfriend’s therapy session.”
Things Were Getting Serious
The original poster (OP) said that he and his girlfriend have been dating for “just over two years” and that things are “getting pretty serious.”
He Was Thinking About Proposing
He wanted to propose to her when they went on vacation at Christmas time, but, after listening in on her recent therapy session, he’s not so sure.
Private Zoom Therapy Sessions
The OP said that his girlfriend’s therapist recently moved across town, but his girlfriend “doesn’t want to drive,” so “sometimes she has private Zoom sessions.”
He Shouldn’t Have Listened, but He Did
When the Zoom session started, the OP said he was “doing chores and happened to hear [his girlfriend] talk to her therapist about [his] mom’s death.” He said he shouldn’t have listened, but he did.
His Girlfriend Was “Relieved” That His Mom Died
The OP’s mom passed away eight months previously, and he heard his girlfriend tell her therapist she was “relieved” that his mom died “because she was causing issues” in their relationship.
Stuck in the Middle
He said that there have been “a lot of issues” between his girlfriend and mom throughout their two-year relationship. The OP said he always felt stuck “in the middle” between them.
She Shouldn’t Feel That Way
The man said that no matter what happened between his mom and girlfriend, “she shouldn’t feel relieved” that she was dead.
She Comforted Him
He wrote in his post that his girlfriend “comforted” him while he cried “for weeks” and that it was “disgusting” to know she was comforting him while “secretly” being relieved.
It Caused a Massive Fight
The OP said he “confronted” his girlfriend after the Zoom was over, and she “yelled at [him] for spying on her therapy session.” He said they had a “massive fight,” and he doesn’t know if he should still propose.
Don’t Propose
