In a distressing incident, a Trans woman from Australia intentionally burned her own male sexual organ in a desperate attempt to remove it.
A Serious Burn Needed Treatment
The 57-year-old, who had been assigned male at birth but identified as a woman, suffered a chemical burn injury and sought medical help a week later.
The specifics of the incident were not disclosed in the medical journal where her case was documented.
Gender-affirming surgery, which often involves the removal of the male sexual organ, is not covered by Medicare, Australia’s national public health insurance.
Transgender individuals in Australia must resort to costly private operations, as public options are limited and often subject to long waiting lists.
Took Matters Into Her Own Hands
These procedures can be complex and involve the removal of genitalia and the making of new organs that align with the individual’s gender identity.
As a result, the 57-year-old had the idea to burn her own sexual organ after feeling she had been living in the wrong body her whole life.
Medical professionals detailed the woman’s case in Urology Case Reports, highlighting the severity of her condition.
She was transferred to Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney for a review of her urology and burns injuries.
Examination revealed necrosis, or dead tissue, at the tip of the penis, as well as burns, swelling, and redness along the penile shaft.
The incident’s date was not disclosed.
Prior to the injury, the patient had been undergoing androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), which suppresses the production of male hormones responsible for physical characteristics such as facial and body hair growth and deepening of the voice.
However, she had to discontinue the therapy after relocating to a rural area. Tests conducted by medical professionals revealed that necrosis had not spread to the urethra and bladder, but there was an increase in dead tissue when changing dressings.
In light of the worsening condition and rising inflammatory markers, indicating inflammation in the body, the medical team had no choice but to perform an emergency partial penectomy.
Painful to Read
This procedure involves the removal of dead tissue and the creation of an opening for the urethra, preserving as much of the urethra as possible for potential future gender-affirming surgery.
Following the operation, the patient was monitored for eight days before being discharged and referred to a specialist in transgender surgery. Fortunately, there were no recorded complications after the procedure.
Several social media users shared their thoughts on the incident.
One Twitter user wrote, “Jesus!!! Just help her with a proper gender reassignment surgery! It is painful to read the news these days!”
Another user commented, “My heart goes out to this transwoman, a completely different story to the bullying trans activists.”
