The original poster (OP) is a 29-year-old who recently returned to work after having her baby, who is 4 months old now.
Stay-at-Home-Dad
Her 35-year-old husband grudgingly agreed to stay at home, since daycare is too expensive and he hasn’t had a proper job since 2021.
He’s Living on Government Handouts
He is currently living off of benefits that he receives from the government.
OP says that, although she loves her husband, he is very lazy.
He Doesn’t Do Chores
He doesn’t do any cooking, cleaning, or help with any house chores.
She Doesn’t Feel Comfortable Leaving Him With Baby
She also shares that leaving her child at home with her husband makes her anxious, but there was nothing she could do.
Things Seemed to Be Going Well
But things were going well the first few days!
When OP returned from work, her baby was clean and asleep or her husband would be playing with her, feeding her, or going on walks with her.
Her Neighbor Revealed the Heartbreaking Truth
But things took a turn when OP’s neighbor recently informed her that the baby starts crying as soon as she leaves and continues to cry for hours.
The neighbor claimed that after repeatedly knocking on their door, her husband would eventually open it and said he’d take care of the crying.
Was He Neglecting Their Child?
OP thought that her husband must indeed be sleeping all day and not looking after their baby.
So OP made the decision to take a day off of work and see what was going on.
She Pretended to Go to Work
She pretended it was a usual day and left at the same time she normally would for work.
She waited for thirty minutes outside her house, hiding.
Noise Canceling Headphones
Then she used her key and silently went inside her house and, as she expected, her husband was asleep while wearing his noise-canceling headphones.
She Stole Her Own Baby
OP was furious but didn’t say anything. She just took her daughter to her friend’s house.
She Called Him and He Said Nothing
A while later she called her husband and told that she would be back from work early.
A Shocking Two Hours Later
After waiting for nearly two hours, she finally got a call from him saying that he couldn’t find the baby.

He Was Furious and Scared
He was furious and called OP many other colorful things.
A while later, when OP arrived home, his mother was there “calming his nerves” because he was having a panic attack.

Later, OP’s husband left for his mother’s place to spend the night there.
Everyone Thought SHE Was in the Wrong
All of OP’s family members told her that she was a terrible person for what happened.
But she doesn’t think so.
OP took to Reddit to ask if she was in the wrong and more than three thousand comments poured in supporting OP.

I cannot believe his mom (her grandmother) hasn’t torn him a new one over this. Find good childcare and leave him. I do not encourage divorce usually but I’m not sure I could ever trust that man again.”

Another Redditor pointed out that OP’s husband is not an appropriate caretaker for her child and went on to say that “If I were you I’d be reconsidering the relationship completely.”
