Republican Liz Cheney has branded Donald Trump “the single most dangerous threat” to the US if he is voted in as President for a second time.
Cheney Warns the State

“It’s a disgrace, it’s an embarrassment” – prominent moderate Republican Liz Cheney is pulling no punches when it comes to warning the wider public about Donald Trump and his potential ascendency to the Oval Office.
No Holding Back

While speaking on CNN’s State of the Union this Sunday, Cheney told Jake Tapper exactly how she felt about Donald Trump’s bid for the Republican nomination in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election.
No Guardrails

“He cannot be the next president because if he is, all of the things that he attempted to do but was stopped from doing by responsible people … he will do,” she claimed.
“There will be no guardrails. And everyone has been left warned.”
Scandal After Scandal

Cheney’s incendiary remarks come in the wake of a long series of controversies surrounding the former president.
He is currently facing over 90 criminal charges relating to election subversion and illegal retention of government documents. But that’s not all…
Nasty Allegations

Trump is also caught in the midst of civil lawsuits relating to business fraud and sexual assault allegations.
And in Cheney’s mind, his involvement with the January 6 Capitol riots still looms large.
A Close Connection

Cheney, who is also the daughter of former vice-president and defense secretary Dick Cheney, is herself the former vice-chair of the U.S. House Committee that oversaw the investigation of the Capitol attacks.
Indicted for Criminal Involvement

At the time, the Committee recommended that Trump face criminal charges for his connection to the riots, and he was eventually indicted on four criminal charges.
A Dim View of Trump

With such close ties to the investigation on Trump and his supporter’s insurrection against the Biden presidency, it’s no surprise that Cheney has a dim view of the former president.
“After January 6 … there can be no question that he will unravel the institutions of our democracy,” Cheney said.
A Threat Against Democracy

“So we are facing a moment in American politics where we have to set aside partisanship,” she continued.
“And we have to make sure that people who believe in the constitution are willing to come together to prevent him from ever again setting foot anywhere near the Oval Office.”
Still Holding On to Power

Though Trump is not as popular with the general public as he was back in 2016, he is currently dominating the polls for the Republican nomination.
It is highly likely he will be in the race for the 2024 presidential election, something that has left Cheney and other Republican Trump critics aghast.
Personal Reasons

Cheney also has other, more personal reasons to rail against Donald Trump.
After holding Wyoming’s only seat in the House of Representatives since 2017, she lost it to Harriet Hageman in a runoff election.
Was It Trump’s Fault?

It is widely believed that Hageman’s success can be attributed to Donald Trump, who personally endorsed her run, resulting in only 29% of the vote for Cheney.
Perhaps that would explain another discussion she had on CNN.
A Potential Presidential Run

While talking on State of the Union, Cheney signaled that she is also considering an independent run for the 2024 elections.
She told Tapper that she “is not” ruling out a presidential run, though she would not run if her involvement were likely to help Trump take the presidency.
Don’t Follow His Lead

During an appearance on CBS’ Face the Nation, Cheney also slammed former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy for “following Trump’s lead,” as well as “looking the other way in the face of the kind of assault on our democracy that we’ve seen from Donald Trump and his allies in the House.”
A Disgrace and Embarrassment

He was recently ousted by Republicans, who are now struggling to find a replacement, something that Cheney feels could have been predicted and avoided.
“It’s not a surprise that we are where we are,” Cheney said. “But it’s a disgrace, and it’s an embarrassment.”
